Environmental Team

Spring 2019

On April 10, 2019, USC Kinetic invited speakers from local non-profits to a forum on environmental justice, a social movement fighting for environmental issues that disproportionally affect low-income communities and communities of color. We were joined by Hugo Garcia from Esperanza Community Housing and Lizette Hernandez from Physicians for Social Responsibility, who spoke about environmental issues in the South LA community and the efforts their organizations are making to combat them.

Food Insecurity Team

Spring 2019

In April 2019, the Food Insecurity Team introduced a system of food labeling to With Love Market & Cafe, a local grocery store that provides low-cost health food to the community. Inspired by USC Hospitality's color-coding system, the project makes it easier for customers to identify foods that are unhealthy or that may contain allergens. The program has already received positive feedback from many of the store's valued customers.

With Love Food Garden

Food Insecurity Team

Spring 2018

With Love, a community market serving underprivileged communities in the South Los Angeles food desert, has historically housed a community garden. However, the gardens have suffered from lack of consistent watering and harsh Southern California summers. Volunteers from USC Kinetic installed an automatic drip irrigation system to ensure that With Love's community garden would last for years to come.
